The importance of gratitude

I think gratitude is something a lot of us lack, we all have it in us deep down but how often do we actually express gratitude? Some of you may do it regularly (if so you’ll know how beneficial it can be) But the majority of people hardly express it. How nice is it when somebody comes up to you and thanks you for something you have done or achieved. Its a wonderful feeling and it often brightens up your mood. Just think how much nicer the world would be if we gave one person a genuine thank you or let them know how grateful we were. One little thing could really brighten a persons day and I think recently we all need that! So go out of your way today and tell someone how grateful you are, I promise you’ll make their day and maybe even your own!

If you believe you can, you will

So often I hear people complain that they can’t do something, whether that be down to financial issues or a lack of knowledge. My main pet peeve is when people believe they can’t do something, as soon as you say you can’t do something it almost tricks your brain into thinking you can’t so you don’t try you just give up. The one thing I’ve proven to myself over these past few years is that you can do anything you put your mind to. Just recently I graduated from university as a qualified veterinary nurse, now those 3 years were some of the hardest years of my life, there was so many times I just wanted to give up and quit but if I did I wouldn’t be where I am today. You truly can surprise yourself when you put your mind to the task. Studies have shown that if you can see your goal happening in your mind and you believe in yourself that you can achieve it then you sure as hell can achieve it. DON’T PUT YOURSELF DOWN! Just give it a go, what’s the worst that can happen?

Your time will come

So we all have goals we want to achieve and an idea of a time frame in which we want to complete that goal, but life doesn’t always go to plan, things happen out of our control and our goals can sometimes be pushed back. We often feel as though they are going to be impossible to reach. I’ve been there before where I’ve seen my friends/family around me achieving their goals and I’ve sat wondering where I went wrong but the problem with putting a time frame on a plan is that you can become really disheartened when the plan doesn’t fall to place in that time frame. Everybody reaches goals at different periods in their life and just because you haven’t reached yours yet doesn’t mean you won’t. It just means you’ll have to work a bit longer to get there but it will be so worth it in the end!

Thank you for reading my post! What goals do you have this year?

My experience at a digital detox

So I spent the last 2 weeks in lanzarote enjoying the sunshine and peace hence my lack of posts! I made a commitment before I went on holiday to spend less time on my phone, I felt like i was checking my phone every 5 minutes and I couldn’t put it down! So as soon as the plane landed I switched my wifi and mobile data off and immersed myself in reading my books and sunbathing! I felt so much better not constantly checking my phone for notifications, it was hard initially but once I got used to not using it i was surprised at how much you don’t miss it! Admittedly I did use it to take photos but apart from that I refrained from using it as much as possible! I found i was listening to conversations a lot more attentively than i used to and found my concentration levels much higher! Now i’m back home i find only turning your wifi/ data on every now and again helps to stay off your phone!

Have any of you done a digital detox? If so let me know how you got on in the comments! I’ll leave you with a picture from my holidays!20180622_140314

The importance of ‘me’ time

Everyone loves having some time to themselves to do as they please whether that be having a relaxing bubble bath or reading a favourite book. Most often we neglect spending time doing something relaxing as we have such busy schedules ‘me’ time is often out of the equation. But having time to relax gives our mind a break, allows us to unwind and forget about our worries. It benefits us both mentally and physically, allowing our bodies to rest for a short while. Often when trying to reach a goal or milestone in our lives we are so focused on that goal that we don’t stop trying to achieve it, now sometimes it’s good to be so focused on our goal but allowing your body to rest helps recuperate and gather our thoughts. Productivity and motivation will be increased if we spend some time away from our goal. It doesn’t have to be a long break but you will benefit from it! So make sure you schedule in some ‘me’ time!

3 Simple ways to motivate yourself

Motivating yourself isn’t always easy, it comes in waves sometimes lasting for days yet other times it seems impossible to motivate yourself. I’m quite lucky in the fact that I find it pretty easy to motivate myself but if you don’t always find it easy here’s some simple tips to become motivated!

  1. Watch YouTube video’s- this is often a favourite of mine, there are tonnes of motivational videos on YouTube for all different kinds of motivation from exercise to work goals. I often find ted talks to be really useful in helping me stay motivated and on track.
  2. Envision your goal in the future- what do you want to achieve and when do you want to achieve it? I find by envisioning my goal it inspires me to keep going to get where i want to be and reach that final goal.
  3. Take some time away from daily life- Now this doesn’t have to be a long time away, nor does it need to be somewhere hot and sunny, Often taking a break away from any distractions can be beneficial in getting your mind active and letting you think more about ways to achieve your goal.

Acts of kindness

Ever so often we go about our daily lives being immersed in the digital world constantly checking into twitter or Instagram always keeping up to date with the latest news. But how often do we look up from our phones and take note of the people around us? The old lady struggling to stand on the bus or the young mother struggling to get her pram on the train. Just delivering small acts of kindness can really make someone’s day even if it is something as simple as smiling at a passer by or offering your seat up on the bus.  Not only does it make the person who you are offering the kindness to feel happier it makes you feel happier! Only the other day I noticed a lady drop her watch in the street, I quickly notified her and gave her the watch and you know what she said? That I had restored her faith in humanity. She expected the watch would have been stolen and never to be seen again. So you never know just by showing kindness to another stranger you may be restoring their faith in humanity!
